» Ear, Nose and Throat Services (Otolaryngology)
The Department of Otolaryngology at Children's Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center is the largest pediatric ear, nose and throat (ENT) program in Michigan. Pediatric ENT specialists on staff at Children’s Hospital of Michigan perform more procedures and provide specialized care to more children than any other hospital in the state. The Children’s Hospital of Michigan offers diagnosis and treatment of more than 150 ear, nose and throat (ENT) medical conditions.
In addition to providing routine ENT care for healthy children, the department also treats very sick and chronically ill children for routine procedures like tonsillectomies and ear tube placement-patients that other ENT programs may not treat due to a higher risk of complications. From common procedures like tonsillectomy and placement of ear tubes to more complex procedures to treat sinus and ear problems, upper airway obstructions, head and neck tumor, trauma and congenital anomalies, board certified pediatric ENT specialists on staff at the Children's Hospital of Michigan provide surgical and non-surgical care for a broad range of conditions affecting children .
Many children are also plagued with allergies, asthma, tonsil and adenoid conditions. These ailments can interrupt play dates and fun times, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The ENT department also works on several research programs and trial procedures that can lead to better treatments for ear, nose and throat conditions. Additional expertise includes pediatric airway disease, sinusitis, all types of pediatric ear and hearing conditions (including working with audiology and speech pathology), obstructive sleep apnea, and tumors (both benign and malignant) of the head and neck.
The Children’s Hospital of Michigan is also a leader in the use of cochlear implants for children with hearing loss as well as minimally invasive and innovative techniques to treat children without open surgery.
While most complex ENT procedures are performed in the hospital, Children's Hospital of Michigan also provide initial consultations, outpatient procedures and follow up care at several convenient hospital-based locations including: Canton, Clinton Township, Detroit, and Southfield.
