DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan treats the most children for inpatient hematology and oncology care in the state of Michigan. The Division of Hematology and Oncology has made major contributions to the understanding and treatment of pediatric
blood diseases and cancer.
Services and programs include: bone marrow transplantation, cancer survivorship program, coagulation laboratory, hemophilia and other blood diseases, hematologic disorders, oncology treatment, sickle cell anemia and a thrombosis clinic.
Physicians are involved in extensive clinical, translational and bench research in pediatric blood diseases, coagulation and bleeding disorders and cancer/leukemia. Much of this research is funded by the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute and other agencies.
Members of the division have held many leadership positions with national programs – including the Children’s Oncology Group, Medical Director of the National Hemophilia Foundation and Chair of the International Society of Thrombosis
and Hemostasis Scientific Committee. They have served on editorial boards, publish journal articles and are frequent lecturers at national and international meetings.
