Home to some of the nation’s leading authorities on pediatric neurological diseases, the Department of Neurology at Children’s Hospital of Michigan is a world-class program providing expert neurological care. Our physicians are conducting important research into pediatric neurological diseases and neurogenetics. For example, researchers at Children’s Hospital have identified some neurochemical pathways associated with autism in hopes of finding effective pharmacological treatments and continue to conduct treatment trials for diseases such as, autism, spinal muscular atrophy and others.
The program utilizes advanced neuroimaging technologies – including a 3.0 Tesla Pediatric MRI scanner and one of the world’s only pediatric PET centers. Neurologists use PET scanning to pinpoint the origin of epileptic seizures – enabling neurosurgeons to remove the affected tissue and dramatically improve the patient’s condition.
