The clinical pharmacology & toxicology department at Children's Hospital of Michigan is staffed by a team of clinicians that study the effect of drugs on infants and children. Our team works with caregivers to ensure that medications used to treat our patients do not cause unnecessary pain or suffering.
The department is one of only 13 in the country that has been designated by the National Institutes of Health to participate in the Pediatric Pharmacology Research Unit Network (PPRU). This network is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of drug treatments on pediatric patients with a goal of ensuring that medications prescribed for children have been appropriately tested.
The department also houses the Children's Academic Research Organization of Michigan (CAROM) which develops and evaluates medical devices and drugs for newborn infants and children.
