(WWJ) – Chances are pretty good that if you ask an elementary school-age child what their favorite subject is – they’ll tell you recess.

Experts say it’s a vital part of a child’s school experience, not only to get out and exercise, but there’s an important social aspect to it.

The CDC recommends kids in grades K-5 should get at least 20 minutes of recess per day, but a new study shows that 20% of kids in Michigan – roughly 100,000 children – aren’t even getting that much. In a new edition of The Daily J, WWJ’s Zach Clark takes a look at whether recess should be mandated in Michigan and what obstacles are keeping kids from getting to stretch their legs.
