Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation

The Division of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Children's Hospital of Michigan at the Detroit Medical Center specializes in the rehabilitation and medical management of children with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neuromuscular disorders and musculoskeletal conditions.  Physicians on staff understand how cognitive and physical impairments affect growth and development.  They use this knowledge to work with patients and their families to develop individualized treatment plans to restore or improve function and quality of life.

The physicians on staff provide evaluations and continuity of care to patients in the outpatient clinic setting including the Myelomeningocele/Spinal cord injury clinic, MDA clinic, Developmental Assessment Clinic, inpatient consultations, and on the inpatient rehabilitation unit.  They work closely with a multidisciplinary team including therapists, nursing, orthotists, prosthetists, psychology, social work and dietitians.  They also collaborate with neurology-neurosurgery, orthopedics, genetics and the trauma team on a regular basis.  The physicians provide alcohol blocks, botulinum toxin injections and an intrathecal baclofen pump program.
