Same Day Visit and Surgery

We understand how difficult it can be to balance your family’s busy schedules and every day activities, especially when your child needs surgery and you need to travel for specialized pediatric care. That’s why at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, we have created a program to provide your child the care they need in a timeframe that fits your schedules.

We are proud to offer our Same Day Visit and Surgery program.  With a team of experienced pediatric surgeons, this unique program provides families the ability to schedule a surgical consult and surgical procedure to take place all on the same day at Children’s Hospital of Michigan – Troy.

How it Works

  1. If your child’s primary care physician refers your child for a qualified surgical procedure, call 313-993-7144 to schedule a convenient time for your child’s surgical consult and potential surgical procedure to take place all on the same day
  2. Pre-surgery Evaluation – The day of your visit, you will meet with the surgeon who will evaluate your child and confirm the diagnosis.
  3. Surgery - If the surgeon confirms surgery is the appropriate next step, your child will be prepared for surgery. Don’t worry! You’ll be able to stay with your child until he or she is asleep, and your child will be brought to you immediately after the operation.
  4. Recovery and Discharge– When your child’s surgery begins, the operating team will escort you to the post-operative area, where your child will be escorted when the surgery is complete. The surgeon and care team will meet with you to review the surgery and post-operative care.
  5. The Day After Surgery – Expect a call from our anesthesia team to check in on your child and your family.

Eligible Procedures

  • Benign lesion excision
  • Circumcision
  • Extra digit removal
  • Epigastric Hernia (patients at least 4 years old)
  • Frenulectomy
  • Foreign body removal
  • Inguinal hernia (non premie patients)
  • Umbilical hernia (patients at least 4 years old)

Please note: for all surgeries listed patients must be six months or older unless indicated otherwise and not have any significant comorbidities.
