Undoubtedly, you are looking for many things in a pediatric cardiology training program. Your most important goals likely include maximizing your clinical skills, research skills, and knowledge about children with heart disease so that you may comfortably pursue a career in academic pediatric cardiology. You will also want a supportive atmosphere with faculty and co-fellows who are sensitive to your needs.

Children's Hospital of Michigan is a large, academic urban hospital with an excellent reputation for both patient care and a rapidly expanding research reputation within a university medical center that offers you these opportunities. Here, fellows are integral to the cardiology team and are progressively more responsible throughout their fellowship for delivering care. A multi-faceted didactic teaching program and practical experience under careful supervision will enable you to develop the scientific and humanistic skills you need to succeed in pediatric cardiology, along with the attitudes and habits necessary to continue your lifelong medical education.

The faculty in the division of cardiology at Children's Hospital of Michigan and Central Michigan University School of Medicine are dedicated to the instruction and guidance of our fellows. We know that in three short years you will be joining us in the small community of pediatric cardiology. Thus, we take pride in treating you as our colleagues from the time of your arrival.

Children's Hospital of Michigan is consistently ranked among the nation's top pediatric hospitals. There are 14 faculty pediatric cardiologists here with all subspecialties represented. We have two advanced catheterization laboratories, a fetal heart center and the latest echocardiography and stress testing equipment. The Children's Hospital of Michigan is located in the heart of a large urban area offering the fellows exposure to the whole gamut of congenital and acquired heart disease.

Application Timeline and Selection Procedure

We participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) for the selection of first-year fellows. Applicants apply directly to the department and register with the NRMP.
Please visit the ERAS website (https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-residencies-eras/applying-residencies-eras-system) and NRMP website (https://www.nrmp.org/fellowship/medicine-and-pediatric-specialties-match/) for updated timeline of ERAS application and NRMP match participation.
Our program will start reviewing applications at the ERAS applications release date (mid July). Interview invitations will be sent in mid to late August. Applications submitted after September 1st are unlikely to be considered.

Our division takes an active role in international health care. To that end, we have developed a close relationship with a heart center in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic called CEDIMAT. Since 2003, we have sent teams from CHM to perform diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterizations, and to perform surgical repair of pediatric heart defects. This is an invaluable experience for our senior fellows to actively participate in. They see adolescents with unrepaired congenital heart disease and get to be part of an amazing experience in performing procedures, teaching and helping the wonderful children and their families at our home away from home in the Dominican Republic.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to complete a two-year program and earn a certificate in Global & Urban Health & Equity at Wayne State University.
